Studio etiquette

Students are expected to arrive to class on time, ready to dance. If a student is late, he or she should wait to the side of the classroom until the instructor gives permission to join the class. If a student is more than 15 minutes late to class, he or she may be asked to sit and observe as a precaution to injury.

Students must wait INSIDE the building if their parents are not present on-site. Students who did not drive themselves to class may not leave class without an adult to pick them up.

Students will be expected to follow the dress code for each class level, including the appropriate hairstyle. The class uniform will also serve as the costume for the December 2021 recital.

Students may not wear anything extra during class time. No shorts or skirts may be worn in ballet and no shirts in jazz. Your class uniform is all you will need. Please be assured that this dress code is entirely typical of most studios and your students will get used to them. The only people who will see them in these uniforms is their teachers and fellow classmates.

Students are required to wear proper street clothes and shoes coming to and from class.

Students are asked to use the bathroom before or after class, not during class. However, if necessary, students must ask permission to use the restroom prior to leaving class.

Students may not chew gum in class.

Students under level 3 may not bring personal items into class. Items may be left in a rented locker, in cubbies, or with a parent. The studio is not responsible for loss of personal items.

Students may not wear jewelry in dance classes, except stud earrings. If a student is wearing jewelry that is not allowed, it will be given to the teacher to be held during class time as a precaution to injury or distraction. Students will receive their items back after class.

Students may not touch the mirrors or hang on the barres in the studios.

Students are expected to treat their instructors and fellow students with respect at all times and address each teacher or staff member with the appropriate title. If a student has difficulty obeying instruction after repeated warnings, the instructor or substitute instructor may ask the student to sit and not participate in class activities for the appropriate amount of time.

Parents, if you feel the need to speak to your child during class, please ask the instructor’s permission first.

Students will not be supervised before or after their class times. It is important for parents to stay with their students until class time and pick up their students promptly after class has finished. For students under 5, a responsible adult MUST be present at all times.

Parents are not permitted to watch classes except for on specified dates as it is distracting to the students and teachers. It is best for the growth of your dancers to allow them to pay full attention to the class instruction.

If concerns or problems arise, teachers and staff are happy to discuss these with families or students. Concerns may be addressed to Exhale Studio Director.
